This year we went to another level again; artificial inseminating over 1,000 ewes across our 3 breeds, plus using 34 embryo transfer donor ewes, and a few hundred pen/paddock mates. Our biggest effort yet.
We mothered, weight, tagged and maternal scored over 1,500 lambs in the paddock, plus DNA pedigree matched a few hundred more.
This data is invaluable for us to breed sheep that have more lambs, with minimal assistance at birth, that not only survive but thrive. The full pedigrees provide us with very accurate breeding values. It is a huge investment in time, effort and money, but is vital for us to maintain industry leading genetics.
